Dusk. Six people ride an elevator up the tower. The floor counter reads 8.
Narrator: Six people, one elevator, and a long day almost over.
The counter ticks up. Everyone glances at it.
Narrator: Floor nine. Floor ten. Nobody is talking, which is how you know everyone is thinking about dinner.
The lights flicker and go out. The car stops. Only the floor counter glows.
Nova: Everyone stay calm. I'm sure it's fine.
Narrator: It was not fine.
A button draws itself in the dark. It says Pay $100,000. A mouse pointer drifts in, circles near it, backs away, then comes back and hovers.
Narrator: Somewhere upstairs, the owner is looking at a button that says one hundred thousand dollars. The owner is thinking about it. The owner is still thinking about it.
Click. The lights flicker back on. The six riders are not where they were. One is sitting on the floor. The counter reads 11, the car dings, and the doors open. Everyone lets out a breath.
Narrator: Floor eleven. Worth every penny.
